HollyAlonzo – Never Giving Up Hope

Deaf, Blind, And Determined

Fourth Update

Hello everyone. I want to apologize for not updating last night, everyone was so tired, we just went to bed after Holly came out of surgery. Probably came out of surgery last night around 1130 or 12. She’s doing well today. Today, they’re going to take her off the ventilator. It was a very long day yesterday. I appreciate all the support everyone has given Holly. Everything seems to be doing very well. She was able to get the auditory brain implant. I know she is extremely glad that. At least she won’t be in total silence. They will not be able to turn the ABI on for at least another month or so. I will keep everyone up-to-date as I find out any new information.

She was able to get the ABI?? I am sooo happy to hear that! I felt so sad and helpless thinking she was going to have to do this without it, and then, after she posted that earlier message saying there was a chance, I was keeping my fingers crossed!
That was a long surgery, and I was hoping the Abi was why. The doctors at House are amazing. (The institution itself leaves a lot to be desired in my experience, but the doctors are incredible!)
Does she have something with her so that people can communicate with her in braille, like via a Packmate type device? It must be so scary for her to be in there alone and isolated..

I was so relieved when she said there was a chance. I knew it was still a chance, but it was sure better than what I thought was going to happen.

I really, really, really hope when they turn the ABI on, she can make sense of the data it will give her. And I hope she was able to regain her coordination.

I keep obsessively checking this place. I’m nuts.

Thanks for the update. I’m so glad she got the ABI. I’ll keep her in my prayers. Going to be a long, anxious month for her I’m sure. Praying her recovery is quick and easy too.
